Why do not auto insurance companies want to sell uninsured motorist protection?
- I may be wrong, but I believe in Ohio its the law, you have too. Not to mention its a good idea. I see about 1 or 2 cars every couple months come in my shop that was in an accident and the other party that hit them either did not have insurance at all or did not have enough coverage to cover the repairs
- Uninsured Motorist coverage is commonly required by state law. Most states require that you carry liability and many require uninsured motorist coverage. Insurance companies have no problem selling uninsured motorist coverage. Just like the other coverages, you get certain protections in exchange for a premium paid. EDIT: states that I can think of that require uninsured motorist coverage: Connecticut, Wisconsin, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, M achusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia. an although not a state - Washington DC. Although some PIP states require UM coverage - many do not. I suspect the theory behind this. in a PIP state you are required to use your own PIP coverage to pay for your injuries. In PIP states, coverage follows the injured person not the vehicle. None the less, even in states that do not require UM coverage - insurance agents are very happy to sell UM coverage and highly encourage their policy holders to purchase UM coverage
- I recommend an online insurance quote. It's free and generally h le free. autoadvicetips.com / Auto - Insurance - Quote.html Good Luck!
- I have always had uninsured coverage, I think it's part of the required minimum coverage in my state. Maybe the companies do not like it because they can not get their money back from the other driver's insurance company
- I haven't noticed that; I have always carried i and written itt. In Indiana, you have to sign off that you do not want it. Possibly some agents do not understand it, but not writing it exposes them to a lot of potential professional claims
- MSAD ur Verbage is Incorrect. It's State law in most if not all to carry Liability insurance. However it is not state law to carry Uninsured motorist insurance. I live in washington state there is no Law for Uninsured motorist insurance I know of at least 3 other states that do not have this
